TABLE OF CONTENTS

Close Ended Question Cards

Single-select

  • Choice-based questions that allow respondents to only choose one option/ response from the list of options available.
  • Typically recommended for e.g. Yes/No questions, range-based questions.

Multi-select

  • Choice-based questions that allow respondents to choose more than one option/ response from the list of options available.
(*Note: If a limit is set on the minimum/ maximum of the option list, respondents would only be able to choose a limited number of options within the minimum and maximum number of responses allowed to be chosen; e.g. 'Choose your top 3 choices' type questions)
  • Anchor options to  the top and bottom of the option list (e.g. Others) to prevent them from being randomized should the 'Randomize' option be selected during scripting of the survey.
  • Add exclusive options - by selecting exclusive option(s), respondents would not be able to select any other options. This is useful for options such as "None of the above".
  • Pro Tip: It is recommended to keep the number of options short (10 options) to prevent respondent fatigue. Options can be also be randomized to prevent top choice bias.

Rating

  • Rating questions are similar to single-select type questions, but attaches a numerical value to each answer option so mean/median scores can be calculated.
  • Typically recommended for scale-type questions (e.g. Strongly agree, Agree, Disagree, Strongly disagree) or NPS questions.

Ranking

  • A question type allows respondents to rank a list of attributes from a list.
  • Pro Tip: It is recommended to keep the list of attributes for a ranking to 8 options or less to minimize ambiguity in the ranking of too many choices that could possibly overwhelm respondents.

Grid - Single Select

  • A choice-based question type in which respondents are to select a single response from a predefined list of options - presented in a clustered dropdown menu format.

Date Picker

  • A question card type designed for collecting responses in a date or time format.
  • The advanced settings allow Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to be excluded from storage in the data hub. This enables the question to function as a quality check without retaining sensitive information in the data centre, thereby safeguarding user privacy.

Open Ended Question Cards

Open-ended (OE)

  • A question type that allows the respondents to enter alphanumeric/ numeric/ ranged numeric.
  • Typically used to gather organic verbatim.
  • Users can also use the voice-to-text function that transcribes respondents’ words into text-form as an alternative input for the OE questions.

Aided Open Ended

  • A question similar to open-ended questions. Aided open-ended questions require respondents to provide their response, ranging from free-form text or numbers across a list of options.
  • Types of aided open-ended question available:
    • Open-ended Alphanumeric: Respondents are required to enter free form text for each option.
    • Open-ended Numeric: Respondents are required to enter a number for each option.
    • Min-Max: Respondents are required to indicate a number between a specified range for each option.
    • Total Up: Respondents are required to allocate a number to each option that adds up to a specified total quantity.

Dynamic Engagement Question Cards

Single Select

  • Lets users create a single-select answer card that shows a pre-set highlighted answer after the user clicks Continue
  • Dynamic engagement questions serve as effective tools within surveys and research instruments. They are particularly useful for:
    • Knowledge and Awareness Assessment
These questions measure respondents’ awareness or recall of specific topics, events, products, or campaigns.
    • Learning and Reinforcement
When incorporated into training or educational modules, they reinforce key messages by prompting respondents to actively recall information.
    • Enhancing Engagement
The interactive nature of quiz-style questions helps reduce respondent fatigue, increase attentiveness, and improve overall survey completion rates.
    • Gamification and Motivation
By introducing an element of challenge, they contribute to a more engaging and motivating experience for respondents.
    • Market Research Applications
In brand and campaign studies, such questions can effectively capture metrics such as brand recall, message retention, or comparative knowledge.

Multi Select

  • Lets users create a multi-select answer card that shows a pre-set highlighted answer(s) after the user clicks Continue
  • Multi-select engagement questions allow respondents to choose more than one option from a set of possible answers. They are particularly valuable for:
    • Capturing Comprehensive Perspectives
Respondents are able to provide multiple relevant answers, offering a more complete view of their knowledge, awareness, or preferences.
    • Assessing Breadth of Knowledge or Awareness
Useful in scenarios where there is more than one correct or applicable response (e.g., identifying all winners of an event, selecting all brands recognized, or highlighting multiple factors influencing decisions).
    • Reducing Forced Choice Bias
By permitting more than one response, these questions reduce the risk of oversimplification and better reflect real-world opinions or knowledge.
    • Engagement through Exploration
The opportunity to select multiple answers encourages deeper thought and engagement compared to a single forced choice.
    • Enhanced Market Research Insights
Particularly effective in studies requiring insights into multiple brand associations, diverse consumer needs, or overlapping areas of awareness.
