Toggle Voice-to-text function for your aided open-ended and/or open-ended questions

In Studio, customise your aided open-ended and/ or open-ended question types with the Voice-to-text function. This allows respondents of your survey to speak through the microphones of their devices and have it transcribed into text. (*Note: the Voice-to-text function is available only to aided open-ended/ open-ended question types with an alphanumeric format.)


Navigating To The Study Editor in Studio

  • In the study of interest under Studio, navigate to the Build section.


  • In the Build section, locate the respective aided open-ended or open-ended question card and click on them to trigger the opeining of the card's settings panel.


  • In the card's settings panel, you can enable/ disable the Voice-to-text function by toggling the 'Enable voice input' button, as well as customise the instructions shown accordingly. (*Note: the Voice-to-text function is disabled by default. If you would like respondents to be able to use this function when answering the question, be sure to enable the function under the card's setting panel.)




  • Once done with your edits/ settings, click on 'Close' to dismiss the panel.


How To Use Voice-to-text Function (As A Survey Respondent)

  • When attempting the survey/ in preview mode of the survey, press and hold the microphone icon down to start voice recording - the text box should be highlighted in green, with an acknowledgement message. (*Note: be sure to grant your browser/ device the necessary permissions in order to use the Voice-to-text function)


  • Speak your desired response as you continue to press and hold the microphone icon. Once done, release the microphone icon and let the text output load in the text box.

  • Currently, the below browsers are able to support the Voice-to-text function:
    • Chrome
    • Safari


  • Currently, the below languages are supported by the Voice-to-text function:
    • English
    • Indonesia
    • Mala
    • Tagalo
    • Tha
    • Vietnames
    • Chines
    • Cantonese (HK)
